Her  Story

BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY

Petra Koprivec, a concert pianist, professor, and composer, embarked on her musical journey at the tender age of three, igniting a lifelong passion for music that has defined her artistic path.

HARMONY IN DIVERSITY

Her pursuit of musical excellence led her to three prestigious conservatories of music across Europe. Under the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Professor Dubravka Tomšič - Srebotnjak, the only student of Arthur Rubinstein, Dr. Laszlo Baranyay, and world-renowned pianist Alexandar Madzar, she honed her craft and earned three master's degrees with honors and distinction. Petra's musical prowess extends beyond the solo stage, as she has collaborated with a diverse array of musicians and ensembles. Her compositions have graced acting and dance performances, showcasing her versatility and creativity. As a soloist, she has performed with established symphony orchestras such as Slovenia's National Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra and Budapest's Danube Symphony Orchestra.

AWARDS

Petra Koprivec is the recipient of the Prešeren Award from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, winner of national piano competitions, a Gallus protégée, and a protégée of the AS Foundation. She has also received a scholarship for exceptionally talented musicians in Velenje and earned a master's degree with special recognition and distinction from the Royal Academy in Brussels, as well as a master's degree with honors from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana.

INNOVATION & EXPLORATION

Innovation and exploration define Petra's artistic ethos. In 2017, she founded Luminarte, a sextet dedicated to performing her original compositions and musical arrangements. Her latest venture was a Brussels-based Jazz Trio, pushing the boundaries of musical genres by blending jazz, classical, and traditional influences with her fellow musicians Alessio Campanozzi on double bass and Pierre Hurty on drums. Their distinct sound captivates audiences with its intricate rhythms, elegant harmonies, and beautiful melodies.

SECRETS OF SOUND GEOMETRY

Petra's most recent and authentic music transcends mere notes to create sonic landscapes called Sofia Soundscapes. After many years of her in-depth exploration of vibration, music science, and mathematics, each composition is finely tuned to specific frequencies based on the golden ratio, the Fibonacci sequence, and symatic patterns. In 2022 and 2023, she released three albums featuring 30-minute soundscapes, which can be used for learning, healing, meditation, and relaxation.

CULTIVATING CULTURE

Petra's contributions extend beyond the stage and performances. In addition to her concerts, she actively contributes to cultural development. In Brussels, she founded Pianist's Corner (2019) on "Pianists Street," home to renowned classical pianists (Martha Argerich, Sergio Tiempo...), about which a documentary film was made. This center served as a hub for elite musicians, hosting intimate concerts and providing an online platform. Successfully replicating this concept in Slovenia, she established Academy Sofia in 2023. Alongside Studio S, a space for recording and education, she yearly organizes masterclasses, workshops, and private lessons for international students.

TEACHING

Throughout her career, she has tried to deepen her knowledge of very intuitive and groundbreaking pedagogic work. In her opinion, the emphasis of working with artists lies between inspiration, connection, focus, discipline, and love for music in all its forms and genres. Every artist is unique and diverse, and in order to fulfill the needs of every individual, beginner or professional, the teacher needs to listen and understand what drives you and what your true passion is. Petra has been playing and studying piano for more than 30 years with world-known pianists and has been spreading her knowledge and teaching students for more than 15 years. She also wrote a master thesis titled "Perfect Pitch Phenomena" in which she investigated the possibilities of perfect pitch development in children and adults. Petra collaborated with the Bebe Maestro organization in Brussels to explore the new field, which focuses on music education for very young children aged 0 to 6 years old, and she now continues Perfect Pitch Trainings with her young students. Her goal is to assist students in developing their talents, overcoming difficulties, improving technical and musical abilities, finding a pleasurable practice routine, and overcoming fear, shame, stage fright, self-consciousness, or any other negative mental thought process that is impeding their progress.

OPENING SOFIA ACADEMY
